Recognize Real

As a part of my 40th year, I am trying all kinds of new things!

So, my mom got me pickleball lessons, a paddle, and a cute outfit of course!

I recently had my first group lesson.

When it was time to pick teams, everyone wanted me because I looked the part.

I tried to warn them!

“Don’t let the cute tennis skirt and coordinated paddle design confuse you,” I explained. “I don’t have a clue what I’m doing!”

They soon found that out and were a little let down.

Sometimes we get so caught up in external things that we don’t take time to evaluate if there’s any substance below the surface.

In a world of influencers where everyone is an expert in everything, it’s increasingly important to discern if the people you follow and the relationships you form are the real deal… rather than just someone who, like me today, looks the part.

How do you discern “real” in your life? Listen to your gut? Draw from past experience? Watch behavior over time?
